LED Light Therapy – Frequently Asked Questions
Here we answer common questions about LED light therapy, as well as questions about our self-serve LED option, the Glow Room.
What is LED Light Therapy?
LED stands for light emitting diodes, which are tiny electrical components that convert electrical energy into light energy. In skin therapy terms, LED light therapy is the therapeutic use of light energy to target cellular processes in the skin. Think of it like plant photosynthesis. Or a solar panel. Wavelengths of light are absorbed by photoreceptors inside cells, resulting in increased energy available to the cell.
How does it work?
Just like plants, our body tissues absorb light and convert it into energy. This stimulates the body’s natural processes to build new proteins and regenerate. Certain cells in the body respond to certain wavelengths of light energy, increasing their activity and stimulating other processes. For example, some reduce inflammation and some kill bacteria.
What are the benefits of LED light therapy?
LED complements the skin’s own rejuvenation process, boosting collagen, stimulating wound healing, and helping with overall skin health. Light therapy oxygenates the skin cells through increased blood flow and circulation while reducing inflammation and the appearance of pores, lines, and wrinkles.
How long does it take to work?
The therapeutic benefits of light therapy begin as soon as the first treatment is completed. It does take some time for those benefits to create long-lasting, visible improvements, but most people see some subtle signs even after the first or second treatment. The skin continues to improve over time, especially with repeated use.
Is LED light therapy safe?
LED light therapy is completely non-invasive and our Celluma Pro panel is clinically proven to be safe and effective. There is no harmful UV-component to the Celluma, and the only contraindications have to do with pregnancy, seizure disorders, and the use of steroids or other photosensitizing medications.
Who is LED suitable for?
LED is suitable for all skin types, phototypes, and conditions, even sensitive skin.
Glow Room – DIY LED Light Therapy
We offer a convenient, affordable way to experience professional-quality LED light therapy between facials in our private, relaxing Glow Room. Each Glow Session takes about 40 minutes, a perfect respite from your busy schedule.
What should I expect during my first Glow Room session?
During your first session in the Glow Room, a skin therapist will walk you through the process. At our Prep Station, you can remove your makeup and tie back your hair. Once you’re positioned on the treatment table, you’ll place goggles over your eyes and position the panel comfortably domed over your face. The light provides warm, relaxing energy that can be felt over the entire face. The sensation is similar to lying in the sun but without the damaging side effects of UV exposure. There is music in the room, though you’re more than welcome to listen to your own… or may we suggest a guided meditation? The light automatically shuts off after its 30-minute treatment cycle, but we do recommend setting a silent phone timer for backup because you might just dose off – it’s that relaxing.
What results can I expect?
After your session, your skill will feel rejuvenated from increased oxygen and blood flow to the skin. For the first 2 weeks, most people feel that the skin appears smoother, brighter, and plumper. After another 2 weeks, skin tone will be more even, and your skin will feel firmer and tighter with an improvement in clarity and texture.
How many light therapy sessions will I need?
For optimal results, LED light therapy is recommended as an intensive series of twice-a-week visits for 4 to 6 weeks. If your schedule only allows for once a week, you should try to visit for at least 10-12 weeks.
How long will the results last?
LED stimulates your own body’s natural rejuvenation and repair process, so you can expect to see improvements for several months after completing a series of treatments. Follow-up sessions once or twice a month will help to retain a high level of improvement.
We hope this answers most of your questions about LED light therapy. If you haven’t tried our Glow Room and self-serve LED light therapy sessions yet, consider this an invitation! You can book an orientation session online or give us a call.
