Wedding Season Skin Care

With flowers in full bloom and spring showers (mostly) behind us, the warmer weather brings a new season upon us: wedding season. In honor of this exciting time of year, we have created Skin Vows, an informative series all about wedding and special event skin care and natural beauty. Whether you are a bride, bridesmaid or a wedding guest, we are here to offer expert skin care guidance and tips to navigate the big event.

Part One of our series is all about getting your skin ready for the big day.

Our Skin Therapists break down the when, what, and how to get your skin wedding day-ready. Follow this timeline to ensure that your skin will emerge cool, calm and radiant.

At Least 6 Months Prior to Your Event

The first step to achieving glowing skin is to set an appointment with a Skin Therapist to discuss your goals and budget. With this information, a Skin Therapist can design a custom treatment and home care plan specifically for you and your skin.

Now is the time to focus on corrective treatments for breakouts, pigmentation, and scarring. Complexion-clearing facials and specialty treatments should be scheduled as soon as possible and will likely be suggested every 4-6 weeks.

Two of our Favorite Treatment Recommendations for Brides

LED Light Therapy for boosting collagen production, inhibition of acne bacteria, healing skin damage, reducing inflammation, energizing skin cells and improving overall skin tone. LED treatments can be added to any of FX facials to maximize the benefits of your treatment.

Hydration FX – UltraSonic Rehydrating Facial takes product penetration to the next level, using high-tech ultrasonic waves to enhance the delivery of powerful hydration and customized actives deep into the epidermis. Hyaluronic Acid rapidly hydrates the skin from the inside out, encouraging a plump and youthful appearance. Peptides stimulate collagen production resulting in smooth, plump skin.

3 Months Prior

By the 3-month mark, you should be well on your way to radiant skin. Once you have worked with your Skin Therapist to find products that your skin loves, we highly recommend sticking to this routine. It is important to be patient, consistent, and to follow the plan set forth by your Skin Therapist. Avoid the temptation of trying trendy, new products.

At this stage, it is all about maintaining the good results achieved thus far. That being said, it’s also the ideal time to assess the skin’s current state and determine any adjustments that need to be made while there’s time before the wedding.

This is an ideal time to consider more frequent facial treatments. A schedule of every 3-4 weeks from this point on will ensure your skin remains on track.

1 Month to Go!

By now, most of the planning is finalized and it is time to relax and enjoy the journey. This month, energy should be focused on stress management and maintaining a calm, soothing approach to self-care. It can be easy to forget the simple things like drinking enough water and getting a full 8 hours of sleep, but this is definitely a time to make an extra effort. Try to recharge and rest, which will also benefit the skin.

We recommend gentle facial treatments and consistent home care at this point. The focus should be on calming, hydrating and brightening the skin. It is best to cut back on deep pore cleansing and start to ease up on the extractions during the month leading up to the big day. This also means resisting any temptations to pick your skin at home as well. Blemishes that do arise can be treated with ice and antibacterial spot treatments.

1 Week – This is it!

We recommend that your final facial treatment should be scheduled no later than one week prior to your event. This facial should focus on smoothing texture through enzymatic exfoliation (nothing harsh!) and hydrating the skin. Extractions should be skipped or kept to a minimum to avoid unwelcome redness.

For home care, stick to the tried and true products that have been working to maintain your good results. Cleansing, toning and moisturizing with cool-temperature products will keep the skin calm and soothed.

Emotions will be running high, so treat yourself to some cooling eye masks to help de-puff teary or tired eyes and assist with dark circles.

Radiant Skin is Worth It

Getting your skin wedding day ready takes patience and commitment, and may feel daunting on top of all the other tasks on the to-do list. With the help of a Skin Therapist, you can take this journey one step at a time and develop a beneficial skin care routine that will keep your skin looking healthy and radiant long after your wedding day.
